  • My friends and I had lunch here yesterday for the first time ever. Some very interesting English items on the menu and some I've never had before. Let's start with the pasty that one of the diners had. I can't comment truthfully on this because the pasties that I've had all my life living in Michigan are made differently but these were still good. So I'm just partial to the different way of making them. Have to admit they were large and well-made with a generous amount of mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Forgot to mention we started with a cup of their incredibly delicious creamed cabbage and Stilton soup. Wow! The rest of us had their much touted fish and chips and that I can tell you I've had many,many times in many, many places but these were exceptionally good. One very large, thick piece of perfectly done, fresh Icelandic cod lightly breaded-and one was enough. One diner and I substituted the fries for onion rings which we both loved. The fish and chips come with a generous portion of peas... Very English indeed. Service was outstanding from the minute we walked in until the minute we left. Our waitress Jessica was not only very friendly and outgoing but treated us like guests in her home. We definitely will go back and we hope we get Jessica again. I would recommend the Crown and Anchor.
