  • I love this place more than I can even say! It's a hidden treasure in the dry desert. My boyfriend and I went birding two days ago and he is an avid birder and he taught me so much. There are a number of lakes/ponds that you can walk around and it can take at least a whole hour to walk around the entire preserve. There was a viewing observation deck and a little boardwalk through some reeds to one of the lakes. This made for such a perfect morning activity because it was quiet and there are so few people. If you want to see birds you have to go early though, we were there by 9am. Here are some birds we saw...Great tailed grackle, norther shoveler, cinnamon and green winged teal, coots, ruddy duck, green, sparrows, hawks, quail, red crowned kinglet, and soooo much more. Also it's free and the women at the front desk was very friendly to us.
