  • Honestly, I am not surprised to see so many bad reviews. What does surprise me is that people are unimpressed with Criss Angel's illusions and magic tricks he performed. The reason I am giving his show 3 stars vs 5 is that first of all his assistant Maestro was HORRIBLE! I read some other reviews that he made some very racist jokes towards an Asian couple. Well he did the same thing in the show I saw on December 27th. Very inappropriate and uncomfortable. This guy gives us Mexicans a bad name. Also, very inappropriate sexual jokes involving Maestro holding a giant broken finger and holding it like a penis while running after the bottom half of Criss's female assistant. Yeap. Not appropriate at all considering there were lots of children in the audience. I'm all for some good humor but I don't think it was necessary in this show. I was so sick of Maestro talking and doing "tricks" for the first 15-20 minutes warming up the audience. All I wanted to see was Criss Angel do his illusions and magic tricks - that's why I forked over $150.00 to sit third row center. I don't think Criss boasted too much about himself - they showed about 2-3 minutes worth of clips about his career and youtube views his show and such. But I felt he was pretty grounded and i liked how he tried to involve the whole audience - he didn't just automatically reach for the first rows he spread out to the audience in the back too. His illusions were pretty amazing - I was definitely mind blown. He hung from the center of the theater and released himself from a stray jacket in 30 seconds and then disappeared and reappeared in the middle of the audience in a fraction of seconds. I thought that was pretty awesome. Overall, his illusions were great but he does not need too much theatrics and his lame minion Maestro - he should not resort to lame humor. His magic tricks/illusions are good enough to stand on their own. I think that's what people want to pay and see. So if you want to see Criss Angel and his illusions, it's a good show - but don't fork over 150 for the best seats - get the cheap ones for 60 bucks and you'll still enjoy the magic tricks - but be warned about his annoying assistant Maestro and all the inappropriate racist/sexual jokes. I would not pay to see this again. Once is enough.
