I went to Lux a few years back and had a really bad experience that made me not want to go back. In short, I'm a friendly guy and the owner was behind the bar and while he pulled my coffee I tried to chat with him a bit. I found him to be such a rude douchebag that internally I said 'This place will not last.' I took my coffee and left and figured I'd try the next place to open in this spot.
Well, Lux is still around. And so am I. And Monday night we met again And I was very pleasantly surprised.
The coffee was not that great - a bit too acidic. But that's a personal taste issue, so I'm not going to spend any time on that. The place itself is great. The couches and chairs have a very pleasant lived-in feel. There were MANY people in there, but it felt cozy, not crowded. I have driven by and seen when the patio is full and people are spilling out, and I would probably stay away at those times.
I have read reviews that said basically 'the place is full of hipster douchebags' but that's just bigoted nonsense. Yeah, the place is full of hipsters, but I found the ones I chatted with to be quite nice. Everybody seemed to be having a good time, or studying and smiling.
It's a great place. Loses a star for the poor coffee, and loses another star for that experience I had a few years ago (no Yelp then)
