We've had to use this emergency vet a few times. We have small dogs so it doesn't take much for them to get dehydrated if they start vomiting. One of my dogs had to get Fluid replacement once. They were fine with this. However one time the vet told me that she thought my dog had a liver shunt and that her glucose level was low. I took her to our regular vet who quickly determined that she did not have a liver shunt and her glucose level was low due to the vomiting. Most recently our dog had obvious pain with chewing and drinking from her bowl. Since our dogs can apparently tell time and know when the regular vet closes, this was on a Saturday afternoon. She was becoming more distressed the next day so I took her to Carolina Vet. The vet couldn't determine the cause of her pain and suggested that we have her regular vet perform dental X-rays since they didn't have this machine. Our regular vet diagnosed her with myositis of the jaw muscle in 5 seconds, said she did not need X-rays, gave her a steroid and soft food for about 5 days and my dog was fine. I'm glad we have this emergency vet close by, but I will try to wait out most things in the future as I'm concerned about their diagnostic abilities.
