| - solid 3 out of 5. depends on what you're looking for. came to try out equinox and took a free barre class.
pros:
- VERY nice gym (towel service, steam room, toiletries in the change rooms, good lockers), lots of equipment and variety, and seems to offer a large variety of classes too from browsing online
cons:
- douchey (duh- it's a luxury gym in the financial district)
- disorganized (see below)
- expensive (but you get what you pay for- so that's cool)
so from the email exchanges i had with the manager and some other sales outreach person, my friend and i were under the impression that we had to arrive to the gym at 6:00 to get a quick tour and so they could soft-sell us a membership. when we go to the gym, we tried to check in and no one at the reception desk knew what was happening. after that hurdle was passed, we asked them where the change room was. it was clearly our first time there- were we expected to locate them on our own? so we basically give ourselves a tour before the class
the "barre" class didn't even have a barre!! it was modified mat pilates with a turnout. i get it, equinox, you don't want to reno your yoga studio and have a ballet bar coming out of the walls. but did you know that you can buy free-standing ballet bars? it's shocking, i know.
just wanted to put it out there that the barre classes at equinox aren't really barre. if you're looking for barre you're better off at an actual barre studio (there are many options across the city). since i don't really work out and i only like barre because of the low impact, i wouldn't come back here.
