| - I really wanted to like this place. I arrived and stood in the entryway, and was ignored by multiple staff (the restaurant was not busy at the time) walking past me without eye contact or greeting. Eventually, someone came up and sat me. I think seating customers must not have been the other workers' jobs, but the lack of eye contact and greeting from multiple workers was bad form.
I ordered the Chile en Nogada, touted as a chile stuffed with chicken, apple, pears, dried apricot, pecans, and surrounded by an almond cream sauce, some cilantro, queso fresco, and pomegranate seeds. Sounds great, right? In reality, what I got was a seared pepper stuffed with dried-out mush. It was utterly disappointing. The chicken pieces and other filling was dried out, and did not have any dried apricots that I could discern. I did notice raisins. I also couldn't taste the apples or pears in the tasteless mush. The cream sauce was sickeningly sweet and did not combine well with the dried out mush that was stuffed inside the seared pepper. I could not finish even half of it. It was horrid.
A side plate that accompanied the Chile en Nogada / mush was potatoes, zucchini, and tomato. This tasted good, but in no way seemed congruous with the plate it accompanied. Very odd. But thankfully, something of the entrée was edible.
My friend ordered carne asado tacos. These tasted good (she gave me one as my meal was so bad). The side salad that accompanied them had a delightfully piquant dressing, but was marred by some rotten leaves of lettuce.
The olive tapenade and bread were odd starters at a Mexican restaurant. The bread was nice, but the tapenade was thoroughly boring. I ate one piece and had no interest in eating more.
My friend, who had the better meal, said she thought overall, it was terrible, and she would not be back.
I don't see much reason to go back. I think the kitchen was careless. Maybe the chiles en nogada is good if carefully prepared. We were there for dinner on a Sunday, so maybe the better chefs were not in the kitchen.
It's doubtful that I will be back. If in the area, I will try nearby Santissima.
The cramped bathroom (unisex) could use some refurbishment. It is very small and on entering, one about runs into a urinal. All the fixtures were quite old.
I mentioned to the waiter that I was quite disappointed in my meal. He did not say anything. It wasn't worth it to me to pursue it. I was not impressed with his lack of initiative. He also did not check on us to inquire how are meals were until we were done (and at that point, he did not inquire, I informed him).
Not impressed.
