| - I thought I would try out Weeds for lunch since I was nearby. The place is pretty roomy but dark. The guy at the counter greeted me. I ordered a bowl of soup, a small latte and a butter tart. They only take cash, which is inconvenient. There is a ATM in case, but now you know, so you can save $1.50. My order cost $10 even. The drinks are around $3.80 for a small. The sandwiches and melts from $5 to $8. They have little snacks, like chips and salsa, as well as a good selection of cookies and other baked goods. Another guy behind the counter dropped a whole box of danishes, I don't think many end up on the floor, but it seemed a bit questionable.
The only table open was wiped but dirty. This place could use a big makeover, maybe even just some new chairs to make the place more comfortable. I waited a while for my soup, when it finally came it was piping hot and had some bread with it. It was very good. The latte was good. The tart was definitely from a grocery store. I liked the laid back atmosphere here.
Weeds is a quiet place to get a coffee and read a book, but it could be much better. I do agree that it does have a certain je ne sais quoi that I find interesting, its a place to check out.
