| - Yes, it's expensive. Yes, if you want to shorten your line you'll need to cough up an additional $20 per person. Is it worth it? Yes, if you want the Vegas buffet experience. This is the Big Daddy of Vegas Buffets. It ain't romantic, but this is Vegas, baby. If you're here you're more into sleaze than romance.
So it's a buffet, let's talk buffet strategy. Ideally, you'll need a buddy that you don't mind sharing food with, and each of you tackles different sections and shares once you get back to the table. If you feel like being social, you can walk the lines together to food-gawk, but only one of you would put an item on your plate. Unless you spend hours going up to the buffet line and somehow only get a bite-worth or two with every spoonful of food, you'll never be able to try as many items as you can with this system.
The range of food available is huge, and it is always well prepared. Certain dishes in particular are far above what I would think possible for a buffet. They are among the best dishes I have had anywhere.
On our brunch and dinner visits, pretty much everything in the ASIAN section was a real standout. Their BEEF special with pepper sauce, CRISPY FISH, SHUMAI, DUMPLINGS and TARO BAO were particularly wonderful. The CONGEE station was great as well. I went back to the Asian section for another round right before I stopped eating my main meal, because I wanted my last bites to be of my favorite things.
I wish I had spent more time and stomach room at the CARVING SECTION...all I had room for once I got there was the SMOKED BRISKET, which my husband and I both agreed was probably the best we've had anywhere, and we seek out good brisket. On a second trip, we tried the RIBS, which were very good. They had excellent looking chicken and assorted sausages here, I don't think you could go wrong.
They serve both hot and cold crab, annoyingly but impressively split down the middle so you don't have to crack it open. It's great for those who don't know how to crack crab effectively, but for those that do it's a lot more work than you'd think. There is drawn butter in a easy-to-miss silver dispenser, too...just ask.
The pasta and soups were also excellent, and in the Asian section they had DUCK that was out of this world.
For brunch they had TATER TOT CASSEROLE, which I tried and yes, of course it is good, it's tater tots, man. The CHICKEN AND WAFFLE is an interestingly battered piece of boneless chicken stuffed into a waffle cone and a hint of maple syrup, with some sweet potato tots at the bottom of the cone to round it out. Worth trying...it seemed like part donut part chicken.
Speaking of donuts, the ones near the Mexican section were good, but the CHURROS were a true guilty pleasure. They really hit that one out of the park. Don't forget to go back to that section when you're looking to end your meal on sweet stuff.
The JUICE SECTION is a fun way to try different drinks and juices...my husband and I tried WATERMELON, TAMARIND, and HORCHATA...all interesting and worth trying, but the HORCHATA was worth going back for seconds.
SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT!!!! This is probably the best dessert buffet experience in Vegas. You will want to make several trips up there, and there are some truly wonderful things. If you like chocolate, you'll love the warm brownie-like gooey-ness of the CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE and the FIVE SPICE something something. The GREEN TEA AND WHITE CHOCOLATE CAKE was a true standout as well...it had a slightly crunchy exterior like the edges of a good brownie, and the taste was excellent. The GELATO was good, and although we tried the RED BEAN and SESAME, our favorites were the NUTELLA and MANGO HABANERO. You haven't lived until you try spicy ice cream. There was also a PUMPKIN something in a white chocolate coating that was like a light pumpkin mousse...outstanding. I saw someone get a fresh made CREPE in this section, too...so if you're into that just ask someone behind the counter. Go ahead and pass on the CUPCAKES, though. My husband and I tried the red velvet and a chocolate one, and they didn't stand out nearly as much as the other items. Not worth your precious stomach space.
Just try lots of things...my husband and I didn't even pick up half of what was offered for dessert, and several items we just took a bite or two of and determined we wanted to spend our precious remaining stomach space on a different item. The Green Tea and White Chocolate Lava Cake I finished, and my husband did the same with the Chocolate Lava Cake and a chocolate tart.
By the way, if you eat here, don't expect to be hungry later in the day. We finished our meal at 1pm, and we were not hungry the next morning. So unless you have impressive self control, you can justify the expense (and truckloads of calories) because this meal will satisfy for 24 hours.
Go hungry early in the day, leave stuffed, and don't worry about trying to find a restaurant to eat at until later the next day!
