  • I guess I'm going to be one of the few who will write a semi-decent review of this venue, so let's begin. To start, I'll reinterate what most have said, the venue is annoyingly out of the way from downtown Toronto. Not being from the area, this made finding it that much more difficult. Once I found it I realized that the only place to park was in a lot across from the building for the low price of $20. Seeing as how I had gotten there rather early, that made the price a little more tolerable but if you just show up at the start of the concert, that can be pretty steep for a two hour show. The inside of the venue wasn't half bad. I was in the 2nd row so my opinion may be a little biased, but I had absolutely no problems with speakers or feed back as other have posted about. Beer was pretty much on par with what you'd find at any conert hall and the bathrooms were bathrooms. Clean enough to use and it wasn't as if you were trying to tip toe your way through, trying not to step in anything to use a stall. I did have two conerns with the Sound Academy, other than the fact it was out of the way. First, their ticket handling situation is horrible. I showed up a few hours before the show and was about 10th in line. This should have guarenteed me a spot front and center, but because my tickets were will call (not my fault, I won the tickets in a contest) I had to use a separate line. This allowed at least 30 people to move ahead of me. I get the need for separate lines, but they could have done a better job. My second complaint was not the parking, but leaving the parking lot. Small lot, 2000 person venue, you're on a small sliver of land at the edge of the city. Do the math. As a venue, I don't have a problem with the Sound Academy. I rocked out and heard every note and was able to see the band clearly. Again, this was in the 2nd row, But I digress. My recommendation would be that if you're going to a show. Don't drive. take the metro or get a ride. It'll save you the hastle of parking and the meyhem of leaving.
