  • My husband and I did the South Rim tour this week and overall I would say that the tour was great. We were picked up at New York New York about 15 minutes after our scheduled 6:25 am pickup which people should understand is just an estimate. The reason that the buses run behind schedule is that there is always some inconsiderate person that is running late! We made two other hotel stops then got dropped off at the tour company Depot. This process was quick and we were offered a Danish and a bottle of water each and assigned a bus. If you are going on this tour in the summer bring extra water. Our driver was Rasheed. He started out friendly and told a few jokes but as the day went on I would say his personality was intense. With that said I do appreciate that it is a long day and he is responsible for 50 or so people and keeping a schedule and keeping everyone safe. Anyway we were there to see the Grand Canyon. He was extremely knowledgable about Vegas history and Grand Canyon history. I really appreciated that. The first stop was at a small stop in Arizona for a quick bathroom break and to buy snacks etc. after that we traveled on the the Grand Canyon Railway for a very nice buffet lunch. We got seated with another couple that despite the fact they spoke English did not make any conversation with us which was extremely awkward. We ate quickly and walked around. There is an old steam engine train and a gift shop and it's a nice place to take photos. Of course even though Rasheed reminded us over and over about getting back to the bus on time there was always that one person who did not care and we ended up waiting at every stop for these rude people. We finally arrived at the Grand Canyon first stop which was Mather point and it literally took my breath away. I felt my heart racing and got a bit dizzy but it went away. Words can't describe how beautiful it is. We had plenty of time to walk and take photos. There are bathrooms there but no restaurants or anything else. We boarded the bus again for second point which is bright angel and it was even more spectacular. We got delicious ice cream there and bought gifts too. We boarded the bus again and headed back to Vegas. Here is the part that freaked me out and maybe it was just me but the ride back was scary. It is pitch black and the roads are winding. It feels like you are going to skim the side of every truck you pass. Our driver used his bright lights because in certain places you could not see the road. We were cut off twice by other cars and we were going fast. I was super nervous but I noticed some people did not even notice. We made a quick stop at a burger place (Carl's Jr. ) then back to Vegas for hotel drop offs. I noticed in other reviews that people were complaining about being asked to tip. Give me a break. You just got driven around for 10+ hours- your driver deserves a tip. I also noticed that other people complained about hotel drop off. Our driver explained why certain hotels don't permit this. I think for the price the tour was an excellent value. If you are prepared for a long day and don't mind being in a group setting and having to wait for other people and make stops here and there then go for it. The Grand Canyon is well worth it.
