| - Great food, great specials, and even better ambiance. Only thing holding this place back as my favorite "go to place" for drinks and meal is the service.
Meal: I had a Monte Cristo for brunch the last time I was there. I also had the cheesy tater-tots.
Taste: My sandwich and the sides were awesome. It wasn't fussy, simple, fun, and done extremely well. I felt like the food was extremely fresh and "thoughtful," in that the meal options for the time of day were perfect and had their own, unique twists without jumping the shark. 9 out of 10.
Value: At first, I was taken back on what I thought were small portions but I came hungry and left full. I think I was doing more thinking with my stomach than with my brain when I first got my meal. The proportions are more than fair and reasonable but it won't blow you out of the water. 4 out of 5.
Service/Cleanliness: I hate to say it, but they hostesses and waitresses seem like a bunch of airheads. Very nice and sweet people but they come off as clueless at times and lack the professional polish that would be consistent and expectedt with experienced and professional restaurant employees. You have to sometimes "help connect the dots for them" and they were too often having to "ask the chef" what is included in the food. In all, the staff appears not to be attentive and not knowledgeable about the menu. Again, very nice and sweet people but service has some opportunities to grow. Parking is a major issue and can be difficult. 6 out of 10.
Atmosphere: The Vig has the best outdoor scene by far. Inside of The Vig is great but the patio is even better. They also have a neighborhood cat name Meow-Meow that comes around and she is a supper sweet kitty. Wish I could give more than 5 points . . . OH WAIT! This is my fucking review and I will give them two bonus points for the excellent ambiance! 7 out of 5. (The Vig is the first review I have ever given that received bonus points. Probably the biggest honor they have ever received! No? Ok, you are probably right, it is not much of any honor, but still, it is exciting to me!)
Overall: The fiance and I are having our rehearsal dinner here because we like it so much. It is a great way to show the fun and trendy side of Phoenix to our mid-western guests. 26 out of 30 points, 4 out of 5 stars.
