Very conflicted about the 5 star rating. We eat at an expensive restaurant one time each year on our anniversary. Kinda hard to keep that "special occasion" feeling when a guy at the next table is wearing jeans and a leather jacket. With everyone fawning over him he must be famous. We chose the 5 course meal and the wine pairing. First off, our Sommelier was the best I have ever had, even counting the one at Joel Robuchon. She went into great detail about every single glass, the pairings were perfect every course and the price was reasonable. Our waiter was professional and courteous with out being snobby.
Hits:
Risotto (with and without truffles)
Scallops
Sea Bass
Bacon and coffee breads
Espresso (Best I have had outside of a coffee shop)
Service (Everyone was very friendly)
Misses:
Dress code
Veal Cheeks (the burnt looking sauce was a turnoff)
Chocolate ball (the waiter poured too much hot sauce and melted the entire ball)
Best Ever:
Sommelier
Jidori Chicken - I was completely blown away, I have never had chicken melt in my mouth like that before. It was tender without being undercooked, it was moist without tasting as if it was injected with brine. I never thought I would go to a Michelin starred French restaurant for the chicken but I would order this again.
In summation, you can do worse if you have $500 to spend for two people. The only place we have eaten that compares is Joel Robuchon. Their food was presented just a little bit better but their prices are much higher. The snob factor is also higher there.
