I took my puppy in for a skin condition that was causing him discomfort. I was initially impressed by the beautiful new facility. The staff was all very friendly and the Dr. was nice and knowledgeable. My problem is with the way the treatment played out. The doctor took skin scrapings and it turned out to me demodectic mange. We were sent home with ear drops for a yeast infection in his ears. The vet explained that they did not have the medication (Brevecta) for the mange and that I had to order it online thru vetsource. She said it only takes a few days, if I ordered it on Monday, I would probably have it by Wednesday. Brevecta is a commonly prescribed flea/tick medication that is also effective for treating mange. I was surprised that they did not have it at the hospital. I ordered it immediately after returning home. I looked online and the order did not even process until 3 days after I placed it. With the weekend it's going to be at least 9 days until I get the medication, depending on when it arrives. I ended up having to cancel his follow up appointment this morning because we haven't even started the treatment yet. I am disappointed with the whole mail order for medications - that may be fine for long term medications, but for a condition that is causing discomfort and when prompt, fast treatment is needed, it is unacceptable.
