| - Save yourself grief, stress, wasted time, erroneous fees, and getting verbally abused and rent from any other company.. seriously, ANY OTHER COMPANY WOULD BE BETTER. If you can just use Uber or Lyft, definitely do that instead.
Disorganized, unhelpful, and the rudest person I have EVER dealt with at ANY business! And we are always nice, knowing that it's not easy working with customers. Her name was SHIRLEY. Older woman that definitely hates her job and the customers that she has to deal with every day. If any manager reads this, have a talk with Shirley about how to not treat customers as rudely as possible. Or give her a duty that doesn't have to be customer facing. Counter agents represent the company's priorities and public image and she is hurting Avis' reputation.
My wife and I had made a reservation months ahead to rent a car to drive to Utah just before the 2018 new year. Stood in the regular customer line for 45 minutes with 5 people ahead of us and 2 counter people. Counter people seemed helpful and nice enough but seemed to be experiencing trouble with people that were prepping cars to rent.
Then Shirley opened her station and we were the first customers she helped. Found a reservation that wasn't ours but was convinced that it was despite us telling her so. Finally persuaded her to use the reservation # that we had and then she found the correct reservation. Then stopped typing and started talking to the other counter person complaining about the preppers for at least 10 minutes; the whole time not explaining what was going on. Just complaining about full sized cars not being prepped. A simple, "We're waiting for a car to be prepped for you." would have quickly ended our confusion. I nicely asked to confirm that it wouldn't affect us since we had a reservation for a standard sized car.
She angrily replied, "This has nothing to do with you and is not your problem!"
I was completely taken aback. What professional counter agent talks to customers like that? Then after another 5-10 mins of waiting, she gave us a choice between 2 cars that were not the standard sized car we had a reservation for. I politely asked if one car had better gas mileage than the other and she replied,
"These are the cars I have and you can take it or leave it!"
I was only asking so I could decide which car to take and was in no way trying to be difficult. We quickly made a decision so we could get out of there as soon as possible so wouldn't have to experience any more hostility from Shirley.
Also beware of some ~$15 fee they will automatically charge you if you've driven less than 75 miles. Even though we drove 300+ miles, they still erroneously charged us.
Harrowing and extremely unpleasant experience. Never going to rent from Avis again.
