  • This establishment isn't too bad for Newmarket. As my 3-stars will point out, I found it A-OK. It's not really located in the heart of anything, just off of David Dr. We tried this place because I have been on a gluten-free diet for a few months and have been craving great baked goods! I also have to cut out a few other things including certain types of fruit, veg, dairy, etc. I've seen the menu posted on the companies Facebook page, and I always get excited when I see the 2/3 gluten free items!! First impression of this place: it's really dang cute! It's fit for high tea. The decor is very feminine and the customer service was lovely. No qualms with cleanliness or friendliness! The display was nice and great big boards advertising their product! So, today my friends and I ordered a few things. There were two white based cupcakes. One had whipped cream icing, and one had buttercream. While I couldn't indulge in the cake part, I did try some of the icing. The buttercream was alright, but not what I'd consider a true buttercream. It wasn't as rich as I wanted it and it left a waxy taste in my mouth. And for $3 a cupcake, it seemed like a lot (though I know that's what would be the standard at any bakery in the area). The whipped cream was much better. The macarons were pretty good! Though pretty pricy at $2.25 a piece, and very, very tiny, the pistachio flavour reminded me of Paris! It was crunchy with that slight chew in the centre, and the filling was a lovely, creamy texture. There was also an Easter themed macaron with a cream filling. I got the same waxy feeling in my mouth with that one as I did with the buttercream, but I still ate that one pretty quick. I wonder if they use a shortening/lard instead of butter?? My irritation was that when we got there in the early afternoon, the only gluten free items were date related, not a person dating person, but fruit. And date is a fruit I can't eat. It didn't really live up the images of GF deserts I scoured FB for. I was expecting the walnut or rice pastry they often advertise. And if that dish is made with dates, they should advertise it as such!! Overall, some items were a bit pricey, and I would call ahead if you have dietary issues. I am well aware this location is just starting out. And I really do wish them all the best and hope they can flourish in this town.
