We came to LV with a toddler and we wanted something close to our hotel (Four Seasons) without having to walk through like 3 smoky casinos. I also wanted to make reservations online. Border Grill fit the bill.
We ate at around 5:30 so while the place was filling up fast, it wasn't super crowded. As such, service was good and the staff were friendly and efficient. We opted to sit outside on the patio and looking back, I probably wouldn't have gone for this. I mean, the weather was nice but it was so incredibly loud on the patio between the drunken yelling from patrons to the intense bass coming from the patio below the restaurant (or somewhere nearby).
The prices were a bit higher than your average Mexican place (especially for the ambiance and the crowd). They were fine dining prices minus the fine dining crowd and atmosphere. That being said, the entrees were tasty. We tried the crab ceviche and the jalapeƱo slices were not a good addition since they were so spicy that if you ate that in a bite, it overpowered the delicate crab. In addition, it was topped with pink peppercorns and that was an odd choice both texturally and flavor-wise. I think I would pass on this in the future unless they change the recipe (which is doubtful).
I went with the garlic butter scallops and shrimp and this was done really well. The sauce was a light buttery sauce and the huge scallops and shrimp were on top of couscous. The scallop was cooked perfectly and very tender. My husband had the skirt steak and it was cooked about medium/medium rare and also very tender. The server suggested treating it like a fajita with flour tortillas on the side, but if you're avoiding grains, you can totally eat it with the tortillas. The chips and salsa options were good and not too spicy. My child has a huge grilled chicken breast with rice and beans from the kids menu (which was a great value at $8) but my husband mentioned the beans were a bit salty.
