| - My husband and his parents went to Sushi House Goyemon for the first time last year to try their AYCE. I couldn't go because I had to work. My husband said the food was good but service was very slow because they were understaffed. They charged $3.00 for my 1.5 yo son to share with my husband which was perfectly fine with them. Since hearing about this place and reading all the reviews on Yelp, I really wanted to try it. It took me 'til tonight to try Goyemon because I was pregnant and wanted to avoid raw fish. I was super excited when my husband and I decided to eat at Goyemon tonight because I have been dying to have some yummy nigiri since having my daughter. We were seated promptly by a friendly host and shortly after our waiter came to ask what we wanted to drink then everything went downhill... *sigh*
Our waiter asked if we were doing the AYCE and I quickly said yes. I asked if my son, who is now close to 3 yo, can share with us. The waiter said no and if we shared with him then we would be charged the full dinner price of $26.99! He handed me a regular menu and suggested we order something off of it. I was not happy but my son needed to eat so I ordered the Niku Udon ($9.95) and cold tofu ($2.50). My son finished the 3 pieces of cold tofu and ate about five spoonful of the udon. I have been to other AYCE sushi places that didn't charge for small children and allowed them to share with their parents. Oh, and other AYCE sushi places had better service than what we got here at Goyemon. Our waiter wasn't friendly at all. He forgot to bring water for my husband though I asked for water for everyone. No one ever came by to refill our water. We constantly had to flag someone to ask for water. Our waiter never once stopped by to ask how we were doing or if we needed anything else. We had to flag him down and ask to order more food.
The garlic tuna, super white tuna, uni and surf clam tasted good and looked fresh but the salmon wasn't fresh at all. It looked like it had been sitting out for awhile. The conch nigiri tasted like orange peel... yuck! The sashimi salad was nothing special and the dressing was actually very salty. Their pork belly, although very fatty, was very flavorful. We ordered several half rolls which didn't impress me at all and sadly I don't even remember the names of the rolls because it was just that underwhelming.
After eating some so-so sushi, I was really looking forward to the dessert given the good reviews from fellow Yelpers. My husband and I ordered the mango mousse, chocolate mousse, tempura ice cream and green tea brulee. Both the mango and chocolate mousse were good. The green tea brulee was so-so... nothing spectacular. The tempura ice cream was a big disappointment. It wasn't freshly made and the tempura was cold and soggy. My son, seeing all the dessert, wanted some too. Given Goyemon's no sharing policy with children, I couldn't give him any but by this point I was so fed up with the bad service. It's not like our waiter even cared about us or would even noticed if my son was sharing with me, so I fed him some dessert.
My husband and I have agreed that we will not be visiting Sushi House Goyemon again. We prefer Sushi Koma (Flamingo and Durango) and Sushi Tachi (Simmon and Centennial Pwky).
