  • ***MOLD*** We ordered a semi load of hay from The Hay Company AZ LLC. Hay price is incredible. $80/ton, Advertised as #2 bermuda HORSE hay, baled last year, some sun bleaching, but good on the inside. NO MOLD, NOT dusty. (yes, I specifically asked) The semi came in at 27.12 Tons. We paid an extra $20/ton for them to deliver an extra 20 miles and to unload ($542 for 20 miles and to unload with a squeeze truck). The hay comes from Yuma, and we live in Marana. Our house is 20 miles further from Yuma than the store in Mesa . We are 100 miles south of the Mesa store. That all sounds reasonable, right? Until....we opened a bale and mold!! The mold is in the middle of the bale, not evident on the outside. We have checked each squeeze - the hay we have checked from 7 of the 8 squeezes is fine. BUT - we have checked 7 bales from that 8th squeeze and ALL so far are moldy. I have repeatedly contacted the Hay Company. They are stating that I must return the hay to their store in Mesa to get a refund... Yes, you read that correctly - they want me to load up 64 bales of hay and drive it 100 miles to their store to get a refund.... Quote: "At this price there is not much I can do. ....... at this price you kind of have to get what you get. I apologize if a few bales have mold etc. Not sure what you were expecting for that price. ..... And it is not logical to send a truck and loader to come pick up hay that was $6.00 a bale. If you do want to return it for money back we would be happy to accept it at our mesa location and scale out the exact weight of the unwanted bales." End quote. What did I expect? I expected exactly what I ordered. #2 Bermuda delivered to me with NO MOLD. I suggest you think long and hard about having hay delivered from this company unless you have some other critter that will eat moldy bermuda!
