I have eaten at Las Velas several times throughout the years and have always found it to be consistently good. This was not the case for my visit yesterday. My party started with the chips and salsa, both were good, but a little different than they served in the past. I ordered the lunch chicken enchiladas with the roja sauce. In the past, the chicken enchiladas were filled with flavorful shredded chicken and the roja sauce was thick, robust and smokey. This time, my enchiladas were filled with tough, flavorless chunks of chicken and the roja sauce was thin and watery. The others in my party ordered chicken dishes - burrito and quesadilla and they also had the overcooked, flavorless chicken. I am not sure if they were having an off day or if this is the "norm" now, but I was really disappointed. They had a really good thing going with a great space that overlooked the square. I am hoping this was a fluke.
