  • Came in to have a chain fixed and buy wedding rings. The saleswoman was WAAAAY over the top and very "sales-y." Felt as if I was racially profiled, since my necklace was a Chai that needed fixed. Saleswoman asked if this was "some Egyptian symbol thing," and I informed her it was my grandfather's Jewish Chai whom just passed away. Went for a credit check, and first was asked if I was born in the US (4th generation born in America). I was told my SSN was issued 11 years after my birth (not true). Then I was asked for my Social Security Card. When I told them I didn't have it, they informed me "my identity has been stolen." Rushed home, checked the 3 credit agencies and found my credit was clean. Applied for a Lowes CC, just to see if the same issue would happen, but was instantly approved. Went back to Jared and told them that there must be something wrong w/ their system. In order to prove my identity, I had to verify a phone number I had over 2 years prior. Was told by 2 other employees that the issue was not their system, but that my identity has been stolen. I informed them I bought a house a year ago, financed a car less than a month ago, and I have stellar credit. We left due to the poor service. Went to Helzberg Jewelers in the South Hills Mall and had no issue getting approved for financing, and had a WONDERFUL experience. I may have paid a bit more, but the service was WELL worth the extra $25 I spent on my ring (we spent over $2,000 there). While there, I was called by the saleswoman and told to "take a deep breath" and call her back. I don't know if it was racial profiling, I don't know if it was a lack of knowledge, but after I was told, "I'm sorry, your identity has been stolen, but we can run the financing through your fiancee's name," I would steer clear of them.
