| - Have heard so much about Matt's but never tried it before, so waking up early on Sunday, I decided to head over and check it out. Got there around 7:30 this morning, and it wasn't very busy yet-plenty of open tables and counter space. I picked out a table and noticed the Sunday Special of steak and eggs. Decision made. It did take my waitress a couple of minutes to come over, but no biggie (for now). On her first approach, I ordered iced tea, and the steak and eggs (rare and over easy eggs) plus sour dough toast. The food came up very quickly...Unfortunately, it was the last interaction I had with my server until I was finished. The food was very good. The home fries were delicious, tender chunks of potatoes, sauteed with onions, salt and pepper and rosemary.(A little heavy on the rosemary for my tastes, but that is just me) the eggs were a perfect over easy. The steak was a flavorful centercut sirloin, cooked to a perfect rare as requested. I always worry a little about sirloin being a tougher cut, but it was tender for sirloin. The toast was a slice of thick cut sourdough, definitely NOT straight out of the grocery store. On the side of the toast was a ramekin of some sort of homemade preserves. I couldn't quite figure out what it was, though. Food gets a definite "A".
Service on the other hand, left me wanting more.. As I was waiting for my food, (and while eating), I noticed that the waitresses all kept huddling up and talking, instead of working. I never got a "check back" to make sure everything was ok. Especially when ordering a steak, it should be done quickly to make sure the steak was cooked correctly. I never was offered a topping off or a refill on my iced tea. Even when I was finished with my meak and my glass was empty, the waitress finally came over and offered clear my plate, she still did not offer a refill..
I would come back for the food, the another poor service experience would make me reconsider a third visit.
