Rollin Smoke is located off the strip away from all the lights and glamour. This makes it easy to get to by car, more difficult to get to by foot. Even though it is located nearly under an overpass and directly adjacent to a strip club it felt strangely southern and comfortable. The people were excellent. Fun and friendly. The decor felt completely original. It enhanced the experience and wasn't distracting. There were a few picnic tables out front which I have come to love about authentic barbecue joints.
Brisket (upgraded to burnt ends), ribs, and coleslaw with a drink and a piece of bread for $22 felt steep for the amount of food we got, yet by the end I was thoroughly stuffed and for that reason, I actually feel like this is a good deal. I believe the quality of the meat and technique were excellent, which deserves a higher price point. Did I mention that it was delicious? It was delicious. The brisket was crispy on the outside with the soft, delicate, juicy interior that I have come to love. The ribs fell right off the bone. They had authentic Carolina vinegar which cut through the fatty brisket. Their mustard base sauce had excellent tang and was good, but I bet it would go better on smoked chicken. Their sweet sauce really shined though. It is tomato based (instead of molasses) and it was just sweet enough. Really complemented the smokiness of the meat.
