  • I figured out why DISH Network is priced so good. This is what I would call "poor man's cable" because anyone who is well off would not resort to DISH. DISH is the Ford of home television viewing. It's great brand new but a few months before contract options, everything starts to fail. For the last 4 months, my audio has been acting up. The first time I call about it, they ask if I had ever called about the problem, and to perform a hard reset, and reminded me to call next time it happens. Nothing helped. During one of Conan's monologue's I missed the punchline. So, on my second call, I reported the same problem, and ask if the last customer service agent taken any notes of my complaint. They said no, but they will take notes on this call, but nothing will happen until I call for the 3rd time. I gave up, and said to myself I would just weather out this crappy svc until February 2012. But service got worse. Remote control became less responsive and HD channels would take longer to access when changing channels. So, the third call eventually came about and sooner a fourth. They sent a tech out to fix the HD problem, but 5 hours after he left the audio problem started up again. 5th call, they finally said "you need a new receiver" but before I hung up I asked I how I could keep the 150+ minutes of programming I had not got around to viewing. She said I can transfer it to a an external hard drive and re-introduce it to the new DVR. I just happened to have one on hand and I thought this could have been nice. But low and behold, the DVR did not recognize the device, so yet another call to customer service. Apparently, there is a specific type of hard drive that is needed which would cost another $175.00. So even with the monthly insurance I had paid for: they knew I would need it at least once to have someone fix a 2 yr dish, I still had to pay $15.00 or else it would have been $95.00. But now the dvr is acting up, so in order to keep files that had been stored, I have to buy a hard drive either from them or another retailer. Brilliant, just like Fords: built to fail so that you can take your hard earned money and give it back to them. Yes I did experience better. DirecTV(6 yrs) and Cox(8 yrs) are better- they cost more, but they don't have service interruptions and their equipment don't mess up within 2 years..
