Yes, yes, yes - I hereby declare that no foodie's trip to Madison, WI is complete without an obligatory stop at the Old Fashioned. 2 pairs of sisters decided to grab a late dinner and were quoted an agreeable wait time of 45 minutes. We tried to find a spot to grab a drink before dinner but our plans were follied by short bursts of heavy rain showers. We returned to the restaurant and sat at the bar while we sipped on some libations. The cherry old fashioned drink was a bit of a letdown, as I was expecting a more smoothly crafted drink. Rather, I could taste the individual ingredients and felt that it lacked a smooth finish.
After we were seated, we ordered a round of cheese curds. Everyone should order these! Fresh cheese curds, lightly battered and fired to perfection served with an excellent complement of creamy mildly horseradish sauce! I was very tempted to order a second round.... Each of us also ordered a burger and no one was disappointed :) The meat to bun ratio was on point and all of the accoutrements only added to the Wisconsin meat and dairy nirvana. I tried another beverage - a seasonal martini with a blueberry flavor but was not impressed. That being said, I will gladly drive over from Chicago over and over again for the excellent food and keep trying out different old fashioned cocktails until I find my favorite.
