  • For some reason Cleveland gets a lot of negative press and most of these opinions are based on assumptions by people who haven't spent much time in the city or the surround areas and from some that have never visited the city. I have spent a lot of time in and around Cleveland and if you're able to put aside the issues that plague most large cities and you can ignore the self serving politics that contributes to most of the city's woes, the potholes, the traffic, the homeless issues that aren't addressed, the aging infrastructure, the high crime rate and some of the other unpleasantries, you will find Cleveland has plenty of good to offer. This city was built and thrived thanks to a booming steel industry and manufacturing base, this is mostly credited to its close proximity to Lake Erie and other major waterways. At one time in the 1800s Cleveland's population soared to almost a million people, today the population has declined to just under 400,000. While the steel and manufacturing industries still exist in Cleveland and in recent years Cleveland has experienced a revival in those areas. The transformation has centered around health care and academics, with major hospital systems, universities or related businesses. A lot of people call Cleveland home because they were raised here. Others have come for work, the four seasons, the low cost of living and quality of life, the diverse population has made this city what it is today. Cleveland is a lot of things, it's a big-time sports town where within a few blocks you can witness the Browns, the Indians and the Cavs play. The lake offers plenty of water activities and sponsored events and the thousands of acres of park land known as the "emerald necklace" provides tranquility and beauty around each turn. There are too many culture venues to name but the art and music scene is abundant as are the many traditional, ethnic and trendy restaurants. So reserve your judgement until after your visit here with a little research and planning you'll get a better perspective of what this north coast city has to offer.
