| - New rule, never step foot in Guitar Center, the coupons are just tricks to get you in the door... it's like a hooker on Freemont St showing a little boobie, but "she" turns out to be a dude with a dick bigger than yours.
Guitar Center is the Walmart of Musical Instruments. They have inflated prices, atrocious customer service. Having lived around the country, i've been to a lot of different Guitar Centers and this is hands down the absolute worst one i've been to.
This location is inundated with foot traffic so the commissioned salesman are going to make money anyway whether or not they help you, they could really care less. It's always a hassle to find someone to actually help you out as the staff is always busy helping other people out or goofing around.
The "new" gear on the floor is already beat up by being hammered on by kids every day. You might as well buy used gear at that point as their "new" floor gear is not new anymore and save yourself the money. Has anyone ever bought things from GC and gotten anything brand new without anything missing anything inside? Aside from the really cheap crap that they sell that is.
Another time I went there, they actually had a really nice used guitar for a really good price that I was prepared to buy. I was all set to buy it and asked if they had the whammy bar for the guitar, sales guy said he would go look for it. After over more than an hour of just talking to his co-workers, the guy finally comes back and says they can't find it at the moment (I doubt they even looked for it) but if I wanted to put down money they would end up finding it. I walked out of the store on principal (I could have made $500 reselling that guitar) because i've worked retail before and I didn't want to support such atrocious service.
I just throw the coupons in the garbage because even with a coupon, Guitar Centers inflated prices and having to pay 8.1% sales tax I can always find whatever mass produced item they are selling is cheaper online. Now they say they will price match online prices but I went into this location wanting them to price match a Djembe Bag that another one of Guitar Centers sister companies/subsidiaries Musicians Friend was selling. They flat out told me that they could not match the price and that it was "too low". I said "What? Your sign says that you will price match ANY price and Musicians Friend is owned by the same company as Guitar Center". I asked for the manager and he just told me to purchase the bag online.
Unfortunately there's not any other decent music stores in town other than Cowtown Guitars which specializes in vintage and boutique gear (Something that this store doesn't have at all). I recommend checking out their store if you're into higher end gear or if you're looking for mass produced stuff, try out the gear at Guitar Center and buy the stuff online or buy it used on Craigslist.
