| - Simply put, Last Chance is shopping for the purely sadomasochistic. Ohhhh, the pleasure the pain, the pleasure the PAIN! It is half downtrodden Nordstrom Rack, half high-end thrift store and the marriage makes what - a rift store? Buyers beware.
There are racks and racks and racks of clothes, rows and rows and rows of shoes, bags, accessories, you name it. You go in, fingers-crossed, hopeful, somehow knowing that somewhere within lies your personal gem, your treasure. That "it" thing you can't live without and that you don't want to pay FULL retail for. You know that if you dig long enough and are patient enough, you will leave exalted, with said prized piece in-hand, having saved 80-90% off of retail store prices! Yippeeeeeee.
Let me lay out the scene for you: hundreds of people swarmed like ants, annoying as mosquitos (or worse), in near hysteria trying to get their 5-limit count of Uggs before anyone else does. I saw people with shopping carts, yes shopping carts, filled to the hilt. One with shoes, another with some bargain back-packs. These are the people I love to hate. You know they're going there so they can buy stuff to sell on eBay, while I, on the other hand, miss, ahem, fashion queen, I am there to find my "it" thing. Darnnit. And those annoying eBayers are keeping me from my item!
Unlike Nordstrom Rack, you do not have to take your shoe or boot to go find it's better half. Supposedly, they are right there for you. But in my experience, the SUPER cute tan suede Vince Camuto boots in my size (score) in nearly new (used) condition (blah), was missing it's better half (booooooo). I searched and searched and all I could think was, please God, don't let the other boot be in some other chick's cart. Finally, a mom with a baby says, oh, are you looking for the other VC boot? I said, why yes I am and bless her soul, she actually told me where I could find it. Wow. Talk about good deed for the day. Only by the time I got there, another woman had it in her GIGANTIC shoe pile on the floor. So like a creeping jaguar, I snuck down and stole it out from her pile, swooped it into my cart before she could figure out what happened and gleefully ran down the aisle with my find. Oh happy day.
On this trip, I bought several pair of boots, several of which retailed for $595 for WAY LESS THAN THAT. Muah-Hahahahahaha. Lucky me. I am the victor. The queen. Goddess shopper of all shoppers. I nearly jog to my car with my goods. And there, free from the crowds, I re-examine my gluttonous purchase in self-congratulatory mode of finding the gold in the dem there hills, only to discover much to my dismay, that one of those pair of beautiful, elegant, rich suede boots, IN MY SIZE, was missing the buckles. Ahhhhhhhh. LOSER after all. And guess what - FINAL SALE, NO returns.
So go. Shop your little hearts away. Carefully guard what you put in your basket. Take your time. Bring your patience hat. And carefully examine EVERY SINGLE ITEM for defects! Good luck. Happy shopping.
