| - I have never walked out of a Gyn's office having the negative thoughts of a doctor like I had of this one. I decided to see Dr. Wilson to get a second opinion on a fibroid because my male Gyn felt that a hysterectomy was no big deal, "since I no longer plan on having kids." Are men ever asked to remove their sexual reproductive parts after they are finished having children? No, but for women it is no big deal, almost like telling me to take an aspirin. The side effects are not that simple.
I regress. Anyway, I had heard that Dr. Wilson specializes in encapsulation and removal of the fibroid, so I wanted to get her opinion. My fibroid was around 7.2cm at my last ultrasound, and had been doing acupuncture and Chinese herbs, so was pretty confident that the size had not fluctuated. Dr. Wilson came in, in a very cold manner, and asked why I was there. Hmm, shouldn't that be in my chart? Anyway, she said she wanted to do an on-site ultrasound and we would determine what to do. After the ultrasound, she said you are at almost 14cm, the size of a small grapefruit. I was shocked. I had no change in weight, nor had I experienced any of the bad side effects of fibroids, so to double in size seemed off.
Dr. Wilson then tried to scare me into a hysterectomy... She said once it gets this big, you are limited to options in the removal and I need to move fast. I said that a hysterectomy is off the table. She then looked at me and said, if that thing was growing on your face, this would not be a discussion. Wth?!? Needless to say I left.
Fast forward...I recently got new insurance that allows me to go to Mayo. I decided to go there as they specialize in focused ultrasound which breaks down fibroids. In my consult, the doctor read Dr. Wilson's chart and said, your fibroid has not gotten much larger and since you have no side effects, she suggested waiting and doing nothing. I was confused. I said well, Dr. Wilson said it was 14cm, that means it has been shrinking. She said no, it was 7cm then.
Moral of this long story...Dr. Wilson flat out lied and used scare tactics to coerce me into a hysterectomy which is a big paycheck for her. I didn't like her during my consult, and now I have no words. This is unethical.
