| - This animal shelter is soo overwhelmed with animals. I am writing this based on my experiences prior to them buying an additional building specifically for the cats.
I am unaware of how the space is now, but when I went, I saw a kitty in a crate who had a terrible cold, probably the kitten cough. It was obviously not doing so well and I was frustrated that it hadn't seemed like anyone noticed. However, this shelter has sooo many animals and I know that they are doing their best. This is the place people should go to adopt because the animals are in the most need in my opinion.
I went to Animal Friends, and not only do they turn away animals, but there is like maybe 40 cats tops that I saw. I support them and I wish all animal shelters were as nice as them, but shelters like the ARL don't turn away animals. For how big the Animal Friend's facilities are and how much stuff they sell in their gift store, you'd think they'd be able to care for more animals. The place is a freakin' palace comparatively. The overall environment at Animal Friend's seemed like a petting zoo. Again, I support Animal Friends and I wish all shelters had the same type of establishment , but when comparing need, I feel like the animals at ARL have a much greater one. It's like night and day different. The poor lil' guys at the ARL are way more cramped. Again, the ARL does A LOT and I know they do their best, it's obvious that many of their employees are stressed out tending to so many animals.
My fiancee and I adopted a cat from here and for the first few visits, we took him to the Pet Clinic. Every time we went, the vets were very nice. We asked them a million questions regarding our other cats and what to do with our other cat who doesn't travel well, and they were very open to educating us with out playing down to our intelligence. They make their services extremely affordable, which is great for the community. I feel that more people would spay and neuter their pets if there were more clinics like the on at ARL which do it at a very feasible rate.
The only thing that really urks me about this place is one of their receptionists. She always has such an attitude problem. There are plenty of people that need a job and would be honored to work at an organization such as the ARL, and she seems so uninterested. She must have been working there a long time because she has lost her will to serve. Like when some nurses see so much that they go numb and turn irritable and careless....it's like she's seen so much and heard so much she doesn't feel the empathy anymore. It's really too bad. Every single dealing with her she has been rude, she has continually cut my sentences off, and had an overall apathetic and careless attitude.
The most important issue is that this place really needs more support. It is obvious to me that the people who work here hour upon hour and dedicate their lives to these animals, really care about the them.
Go here and rescue an animal who really needs it.
