| - OH MY. OH MY!
I couldn't wait to write this review. I just booked two return visits and both will take place in July when my family visits, but I went last night for a group meeting and
5 stars for the grilled chicken wings & Mussels.
4 stars on the cajun cheese curds ( i mean it's fried so it's good but the dip is BETTAH - no typo). lol PLUS the Bruchetta.
2 stars for the crap service.
4 stars for the server's assistance, hostess and bar tender
4 stars for Liliana's growing their own herbs in the garden next to the outdoor patio. I know y'all think this is Madison-chic but IT'S SOOOO NEW ORLEANS AUTHENTIC. When I saw the sous-chef pull around to get something with his kitchen dirty pants...I wanted to be bothered but it warmed my heart so that I reminisced about getting home sooner than 2013.
I hate patio dining because of bugs and heat. YEP! I'm allergic to the heat (no joke) and I'm from the place of heat. Of course, the bugs were fighting for a place near the dishes. We ordered Mussels, 2-order of Wings, Cajun Cheese Curds, The Veggie trays ( I don't recall but one had pita bread..I think it was their take on cruidte), the BRUCHETTA was lovely and I can't stand tomatoes. It has a pesto base. We also ordered BBQ Shrimp. It's not BBQ Sauce but Creole style with butter and a bunch of spices.
This place knows to stick to the recipes and butter so it can't be wrong. But I'm trying to live a long, healthy life so I wish they'd lay off some of the butter and find alternatives but then it wouldn't be NOLA food. But honey....let me tell you.... those Grilled Wings got my faithfulness. You know how many times I have to eat 1 wing and call it a day or skip them altogether because they're fried?!?!
The kid gave a thumbs up to the Kid steak. Said it was flavored well and decent texture. Yep, kid CRITICs do exist. The kid didn't care for the mashed potatoes and protested how did "vegetables" on the menu turn into just 3 asparaguses. lol. I told the kid - "JUST EAT IT"
I'm choosing to bypass the discussion regarding bad service, but the food is well worth the trip. I look forward to finally getting some beignets one day and not from the Bayou (On Butler).
4.5 stars for the Ambiance because the MUSIC and setup tries to replicate any street in the Quarters or Uptown. But it's more Claiborne versus Tchoupitoulas. The Courtyard isn't New Orleans-eque because it's Fitchburg..there's only so much he can do but I respect and appreciate the effort.
Oh by the way..... a barback ran out to the Herb garden and pulled what I assumed was some mint. Man!!! you got's to love hard work and effort. To that end, I pray and hope my next two visits exceed my expectations or at least just come out the closet and say, "EXPECT GOOD FOOD BUT SURLY SERVICE." That's okay. I've patronized and known a few establishments that lasted for generations under that mantra. Sad but true.
