  • Things you should know before you read my review: 1. I live exactly 75 seconds driving in a car from Metro Market and about 7 minutes walking. 2. I love food with a passion. 3. I work for a food company. I shop at Metro Market ALMOST exclusively because, well, it's just so gosh darn close! Why would I drive to Woodman's or Copps or the Piggly Wiggly down the street when I can throw rocks and have them land in the Metro Market parking lot?? Things I like/love about Metro Market: 1. They have a prepared foods bar that I never go to but other people seem to like it. 2. They have a smoothie bar that gives free samples 3. They have an ice cream/gelato counter 4. They have a bakery counter with actual ovens behind it, it's like they *gasp* actually make stuff there! 5. They have a legit butcher counter with people behind it that you can ask questions of and get yummy meats and fish. 6. They have a cheesemonger. An actual, amazing, dedicated cheese monger who makes it her job to give people free samples, introduce them to new cheeses, and make fancy things accessible to customers. LOOOOOOOVE IT! 7. Everything is clean and neat and ordered slightly fancy without being pretentious. 8. They hire lots of high schoolers which I appreciate because teenagers need good first jobs. 9. They have community events like Hawaiian luaus and BBQs where patrons get food. I dig it. Things I wish were not true about Metro Market: 1. Most things there are just a little bit more expensive than other grocery stores. You pay for the class. I get it, I accept it, I shop there anyway and move on. But really, if you are looking for a steal on your groceries, Metro Market probably isn't the place to do it. 2. They recently changed their uniform from the classiest ever white button down and black tie to a light green polo reminiscent of fast food places. Bring back the ties, pleeeease! 3. Their member card is kind of lame. You don't get gas points or money back or percent off. You don't need it to get deal prices like Kroger/Payless. I'm not even sure why I have it to be honest.... 4. They don't get new products from big brands, like ever. Oh Oreo came out with a new flavor like S'mores or even a seasonal flavor like Pumpkin Pie Spice? Yeah, they don't have it. Lays Do Us a Flavor chips? They don't have it. Any kind of food product that you would see a commercial for? They don't have it. They have your basic groceries and upscale things. They don't have cool, new, shiny things. 5. They have great little coupon books that they send out in the mail to people, but I don't know who they send them to. I get one like once every two months, so I just try and find one that someone left in the store in the carts. I really should figure out how to get on that mailing list.... Overall, I love Metro Market and will continue shopping there for the majority of my needs. I fully admit this is because they win me over with convenience and free samples.
