Allerton is a two and a half hour drive for us so we gave some debate as to whether or not it was worth it. Now that we've been there and done that, I can unequivocally state that this park was fully worth the drive and time. When we arrived we decided to walk all of the paths in the vicinity of the gardens and mansion. That's a good deal of walking and we're glad we put foot to path on every bit of it. Everywhere you turn you run into new statues, sculptures and gardens. The mansion is also very impressive. There were weddings in session so we weren't able to do the inside tour, but you can get a good feel for the place just by walking the exterior. Some of our favorite spots on the grounds included the House of the Golden Buddha's and its elevated overlook, and the Sun Singer. It's a longer walk down to the Sun Singer sculpture, but if you've ever seen the original Jason and the Argonauts, you've got to make your way down here. The size, color and grandness of this statue is just awesome..and it has to be seen in person. We also made our way over to the south side of the park where the barn and original lost garden site was. This entire property is an outdoors-mans paradise. Be sure to give it a whirl.
