| - As neighbours of Toronto, who have visited the city many, many times, we decided to take the bus tour of downtown Toronto for Father's Day. We purchased our tickets online, printed the receipts and got in our car. We decided to start the tour at the very beginning... Dundas Square. While my parents kept our spot at the front of the line, my brother and I went to the kiosk located beside the Hard Rock Cafe. First impression, these girls really wanted to be anywhere else than here. They didn't offer help, didn't say hello or have a good day. Whatever, I've been an angsty teen/young adult who's had to work a Sunday morning hungover, or whatever their excuses were.
I went back to wait in line with my parents, and there really wasn't any order to the line. So, when the bus came up, everyone in said line had rushed to the door, leaving people like the polite 10-12 in the front of the line without a spot on the bus. It was kind of surreal how out of hand the organization was. And wouldn't you know it... people started complaining, hardcore. Essentially we had to tell these girls in the yellow shirts how to organize these people. Let them line up, then assist the poor tour guides on the bus with ushering the line forward, don't just let chaos ensue. Needless to say, things started off on a bad food. I even said to my mom "1-star on Yelp as of now"....
Once we got on the second bus that came along (about 30 minutes after lining up), we grabbed seats on the top of a double decker. The bus was pretty large so many of the people waiting in line were able to go upstairs. We had our guide Angela, her helper Alex, and bus driver Sebastian from stops 1-19. Angela was great and very well spoken with a nice air of confidence. She is the only reason this tour was redeemable. I also liked the bits of information she was able to provide, it was nice to learn knew things as well as have facts we knew clarified!
We got off at the Distillery District, and upon returning to the bus we had to wait another 25 minutes for a bus to arrive! We almost just bit the bullet and took a taxi cause it was 33 degrees on this day.
I feel like they miss a lot of great things to point out as well. My main complaint was that instead of pointing out the very important spots like the Native Canadian Centre on Spadina (which we pass twice), the tour was talking about the graffiti on the wall and how it's apparently meant to be the guy related to Casaloma). This happened a couple times, but I guess it's more impressive to talk about random celebrity houses/visits than how we support cultures?? Overall, this company could use a little more organization, but it's a nice service and we were satisfied with our purchase.
