  • I'm a huge fan of Gaucho and it's super easy to give them 5 stars. The quality of the food is consistently awesome. Some of my favorites include the flank steak, humita, foccacia, the rosemary braised beef sandwich, seafood stew, grilled corn on the cob, the shrimp....honestly, I've never had a dish here that I didn't think was delicious. I love that the menu changes seasonally and combines familiar items with more adventurous ones. This place is so fun for a family-style meal with a nice bottle or two of wine (BYOB) because you're going to be eating off each other's plates anyway. The steak temperature can be somewhat inconsistent. I started ordering it rare after having a few instances where only the center piece of my steak serving was actually at medium-rare, but then ended up with an order of steak that was definitely the Pittsburgh definition of rare. Regardless of this, the steak is always, always delicious and I would probably eat it even if it showed up in a near-charcoal state (which it doesn't). As you can see by other reviews, plenty of people are thrown by the ordering/seating strategy at Gaucho. There's really nothing wrong with it unless your expectations are a traditional "server-runs-to-my-table-for-every-little-thing" restaurant, in which case, you should give Gaucho a try when you're feeling a little more independent. At Gaucho, you line up near the door and in front of a huge blackboard menu to order, then seat yourself in the dining area. When your meal is ready, they will bring the food out to you. The line can get very long and there can be some competition for seating during busy times--so I definitely suggest you make your first visit at an off-time to really enjoy the experience. Still, we have NEVER failed to get a table and enjoy our meal. The staff are super friendly, helpful, and they really do circulate and make sure you have what you need.
