| - Let me preface by saying I think the park itself is gorgeous and with all the viewpoints, photo-ops, and trails, it certainly is something to behold. I don't think pictures do it justice, especially at sunset.
It is only a short drive away from the Strip and for only a $7 fee you can witness one of nature's true beauties. A scenic drive here is worth the price of admission and more. But our scenic drive was ruined, hence the three star review.
Though I understand the reasoning for the park patrol doing their job, they were especially out in force on this Sunday in the middle of August. Our friend received a $200 ticket for doing 48 in a 35 mph zone just because they were driving a supercar, specifically a McLaren C12. We were following them and they were not driving recklessly at all and really were going about the same speed as the rest of traffic. Just a shame because the Red Rock Canyon has some of the nicest paths to take a car of that caliber. It just put a whole damper on the rest of the drive.
Shorty after that, the park patrol ticketed a motorcyclist within a span of 10 minutes. Then a red Lamborghini sped off after witnessing our friend get pulled over likely giddy over the fact that they dodged a bullet.
The cherry on top was having to deal with a certain car who inexplicably kept stopping in the middle of the road or driving 10mph. As an Asian, I think its okay for me to say "get it together FOBs!"
Had I seen tortoises I'm sure this review would be five stars easy. But alas, the only shells we encountered was a shellacking by the park rangers.
I'd like to come back and explore the rest of this park someday but I'd caution those hoping to bring their nice cars here to be more discreet in their color scheme of their ride. While orange sure attracts a lot of people wanting to take photos with the car (I counted at least a dozen or so strangers taking photo-ops in and around the car), its also a homing mechanism for the park rangers.
In no way am I advocating speeding, but these are just my opinions.
