I had lasik 15 years ago and my left eye recently started to degrade to the point where I needed glasses for driving and watching movies. I decided to look into having it done again and I ended up here. They did the routine tests said I needed prk because my corneas were too thin and I was ok with it so I scheduled it. You NEVER get to see the surgeon till the day of surgery. Only see some optometrist. Even on surgery day you only see the surgeon through his mask about to do the surgery. They say you're getting a discount. Who really knows. Everyone I talked to the day of surgery was paying something different.
They told me I would be seeing 20/20 within 3 weeks. Two weeks later I was seeing 20/50. Horrible vision. I kept going back and they kept telling me to give it time. I kept insisting to see the surgeon who did my eye. Finally I went to another eye surgeon for a second opinion and he said I was over corrected and now I was far sighted in that eye. When I went back to the Lasik Institute they finally admitted it. I wanted to meet with the surgeon and they said he's only there 1 day a month so I scheduled an appointment. The day I went they said he was busy and I met with the optometrist again.
Finally, a few weeks later I was able to meet with him. He said "I was too hung up on 20/20 vision. What???!! Who wants to pay all that money for mediocre vision?? That's not what they advertise. My vision was now worse and I was out $1,600! I never went back. My eye is severely dry now and because my cornea is so flat it's uncomfortable to wear a contact lens. I am currently a +1.50 in my left eye.
My advice to anyone wanting this surgery is find a reputable eye surgeon and make sure you meet with him face to face before your surgery. Your vision is important and it's worth that much. These lasik places just herd people in on surgery day and take your money.
