| - My wife happens to be from the South. So after we de-planed at PHX and picked up our rental, she naturally found this place on Yelp as we driving!
Papa Joe's isn't in the most glamorous part of Phoenix. In fact, you may feel a little nervous around this neighborhood. My wife and I didn't have any trouble though. We parked in the strip mall parking lot where Papa Joe's is.
Walking inside, this a hole-in-the-wall mixed in with some down home love. Papa Joe's is a very nice, gracious man. And his son is really great too.
My wife did all the ordering: 6 pieces of catfish, 2 orders of fried okra, an order of peach cobbler and an order of fried green tomatoes.
Now unlike my wife, I'm in LA boy. When I first heard my wife utter "catfish," I was already thinking about how it was going to taste like it had sand in it. I also wasn't too thrilled that everything ordered was fried, except for the cobbler.
But I worried for nothing... The food here is amazing. The fried catfish was so damn good, that I've told so many people about it. I can't wait until my next business trip into Phoenix and Scottsdale to go back here.
The okra, tomatoes, and cobbler were off the charts too.
If you're from the South, or are looking for some good cooking, you have to come here.
