  • Charlotte would be an a-okay airport if you were just flying in or out, but as a major American Airlines hub it is clearly not equipped to handle the amount of traffic through here. My layover here was extended from an hour to three to four, so naturally I went looking for some food and refreshment. Literally no seats at any of the restaurants or bars closest to my terminal. Fine! Don't take my money! I gave up on actually sitting anywhere and just got takeout at the BBQ spot in the center of the terminals. Did I mention how ridiculously crowded it is? Normally when you have a layover, you can quickly stand to the side and look up your next gate on your phone, or at least reorient yourself enough to find the departures screen (short people problems). Nope, the flow of traffic and the narrow halls don't allow that. I noticed wheelchair users having a hard time getting though without assistance too. There were not enough outlets here as indicated by the immediate poaching of my outlet spot when I got up to go to the restroom. There are around 20 for the whole end of the terminal, and people were willing to stand or sit on the ground to use them. Not ideal for a major transfer airport notorious for delays. A couple I waited in line with had actually missed their 2pm flight because they didn't hear the announcement. The intercom at our gate was abysmally soft, and even in line waiting to board (anxiously, since my 4:30 flight had been delayed by 4 hours) we couldn't hear what zone was boarding. Combine that with lack of enough seating for a flight at each gate, and you have a recipe for a lot of missed flights.
