Items Ordered: Small tea ($1.95) + Custom cookies (5 small cookies for $2.75) + Self-serve frozen yogurt (price based on weight)
This place sells 3 things: tea, frozen yogurt and cookies.
The Red Bench's offerings is a brilliant idea, in fact I wish I came up with the concept myself. Another new kid on the block, this is not your average tea bar. It's clear that they are big on flavourful, loose leaf teas by the full selection displayed in vials. I went with the toasty almond herbal tea, which tasted nothing like toasted almonds, in fact it tasted, smelled and looked like a fruit tea. I was disappointed.
As for the frozen yogurt, six flavours are available. I combined orange and chocolate which was lovely on a hot, hot day. They carry a bunch of toppings, like the menchies chain (just not as many) to customize your frozen treat. I am not huge on icy or frozen treats, my weakness is for baked goods. So when I walked past a chalk board sign outside that read "made to order customs cookies," my eyes were salivating and I was sold.
They have a cookie bar! It's genius! Fresh, hot, designer cookies! Need I say more?
First you choose your dough, I settled on peanut butter, then you choose two toppings; toffee bits and walnuts in my case and in less than 5 minutes my perfect, scorching, hot cookies came to my table. Crispy edges and soft inside.
The only thing that I wished they served to compliment the cookies is coffee. Nothing fancy, just your everyday, house blend, drip coffee would make this place perfect in my eyes and for other city coffee and cookie lovers alike.
