Went in for cleaning and exam with insurance. They didn't perform a cleaning, instead the doctor spent maybe 40 seconds looking in my mouth, (not even poking with an instrument), just enough time to reference some teeth for the hygienist to write down. They told me I had 5 cavities and needed over $1200 worth of work. They however wouldn't do anything until the insurance company agreed to cover it.
In the meantime, I went to another dentist for a second opinion and was told none of those teeth had cavities, nor did I need a root canal.
