  • Have heard of this restaurant being one of the best thai restaurants in the country, so I was really glad that when I was in Vegas I had a chance to go there. The restaurant was hard to find. Like most places in Vegas that is off the strip, this place is in a sketchy part of town in a very run down strip mall. But people in the know have no problem finding the place. We were lucky to come on a Tuesday night and did not have to wait for a table. The menu is extensive. There are so many things that sound so good and I wish I could try everything. I really had a hard time choosing so I asked the waiter for recommendations. He was extremely nice and really helpful. With his help, we ordered the drunken noodles with prawns and a pork curry that had some Burmese influences. The drunken noodle dish was mind blowing. The noodles were topped with giant prawns, I think there was 7 or 8. The prawns were huge! And it was deep fried and they separate the shell enough so it is easy to eat the shrimp but still intact enough to make it look like a butterfly. Great presentation. The deep fried shell tastes like shrimp chips, so yummy! The prawns are very tender. There's so much of this stuff that the noodles are dwarfed in comparison. The noodles were also really tasty. It would have been fine if this was a stand alone dish. I don't think I have had drunken noodles this good. The pork curry was also really distinctive. The spices are very rich and unexpected. The pork was tender and flavorful. This is not your typical thai restaurant or typical Americanized thai food. Really great experience. There has been comparisons with this and Kin Khao in SF. I can tell the flavors are of the same region, and I can see the similarities. However, I think Lotus takes the prize, if not for its no nonsense simplicity vs KK's over fancified SF style presentation. Just purely on experience since Lotus has been around for so much longer.
