  • The one star symbolizes the life of our dog, Sarge, that had shone in our lives before the night of March 12th. His suffering was needless torture, and I still cannot fathom the depth of neglect he was forced to endure. We rushed him in for emergency treatment when he started having seizures. We suspected he may have eaten a pigeon that may have been poisoned. Did the vet xray to confirm? No. Any treatment for poisoning? No. That vet said she had never seen anything like it before. Was that reason enough for her to consult with an experienced colleague for treatment? No. She told us she would monitor him and we should go home. Nearly 3 hours later she called to inform us that his convulsions were so severe that he would stop breathing and turn purple. She said we had to come immediately and take him to an emergency hospital because she didn't have the staff to sedate and intubate him. REALLY??? We thought we had taken him to an animal hospital. How long had he been suffering this? The records don't show. How were we supposed to transport a healthy 80- pound dog that now needs to be restrained, sedated, and intubated? She didn't know, and said we didn't have much time to make a decision. She said he may have already suffered extensive brain and organ damage (which could be permanent) even if he survived long enough for us to take him to an "emergency" hospital. We don't know how to intubate, she said she doesn't have the staff to intubate, and the dog is suffocating because he isn't intubated. How long would you let your dog suffocate? Given the options, we had no choice. I signed his death warrant.
