| - Does your butt pucker at the thought of going to a dealership for an actual repair? Yeah...
With a weatherproofing gasket on my sunroof that I rolled up into my roof the previous weekend on my 4runner, the thought of having to go to the dealership to get a quote was giving me the hives. I called ahead to see if I needed to make an appointment, and the nice gentleman on the phone told me to come over. In less than ten minutes, my beloved beauty was parked in their service line getting molested by 2 different people.
After you pull in and they punch your info into a tablet, their "windshield guy" starts using a grease pencil to circle places on your windshield to justify you getting a "free" windshield while you are there. I reminded him that I was there to get my sunroof checked, and didn't need a windshield, and to please clean the marks off.
My hood is popped. I am still just there to get my sunroof looked at. I am told there is an oil leak. After leaving the dealership, I head straight to the Firestone on Arrowood. There is no oil leak. (I am making my surprised face right now, it's almost believable).
The guy that checked me in then tries to roll my sunroof back, after I explained that is when the damage occurred not 5 minutes prior, and when I say STOP, he acts surprised that the gasket is rolling into the roof. The service guy is called in, people leave, the service guy comes back and the quote is $850 for new glass and gasket (Toyota doesn't make the gasket separately). The damage is left from the service estimator rolling the sunroof back, and I head back to work (after Firestone to make sure I am not leaking oil) and try to put the gasket back into place in work clothes.
I verified what T&C Toyota told me needed to be done with a repair shop close to my office that I trust and called an auto glass place, who then referred me to a place that does sunroofs (I did a review for them if you are looking to get your sunroof worked on). They replaced the sunroof for FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS LESS than what I was quoted at Toyota, and they didn't try to sell me headlight fluid.
While I was standing in the service bay, a woman pulled in across the aisle complaining that her husband wanted to see the part that they replaced, because he didn't believe they got a new part. Take that with a grain of salt, because people are crazy, but it definitely caught my attention.
I don't know if I got rushed like that because I am female, or if they do it to everyone. I have been getting maintenance on my vehicles done for almost 25 years and I have never had such a poor experience that made me feel like I was being taken advantage of. Never again.
