| - I've always enjoyed the atmosphere in the various Shopko stores throughout Wisconsin over the past 15 years. They are comparable to Target in most every way. Which is a good thing, but unlike Target stores, there is never a sense of being crowded or even busy! The aisles are wide and well organized in at least all the Madison locations.
The staff has never been dismissive or rude in my experience. They may not be able to be helpful, but not once have I encountered bad attitudes or indifference which is NOT something I would say about other retail type stores.
The BEST part of the Shopko experience is that there is ZERO resemblance to any Walmart. Period. I have been to a Shopko that wasn't kept up as well as the others, but despite that, it was still more pleasant than the most tidy and modern Walmart hands down!
As a little kid I remember going into Kmart stores and they all had a lingering odor or stale popcorn, BO, and some indescribable scent that I can only resume was patented by Kmart, but now commissioned for exclusive use in every sparkly clean Walmart in America as well as, and perhaps an even more foul formula was especially tailored for the older and more decrepit stores that don't have enough future clientele potential to ever be decommissioned and replaced by a mega humongous new Walmart where essentially the same strata of bargain buyers will loyally flock in their never ending pursuit of shit they can't afford and most likely really don't even need!
Which brings me to why I wanted to comment in the first place. I encountered a couple really poor reviews and upon reading them it was really irritating to not be allowed to give them a critical vote that points (initials KH)out that their review served no single purpose other than to give them voice to complain about something that had absolutely NOTHING to do with the store, it's products, or even the staff if anyone were to actually recognize that complaint was based upon some cell phone APP that was misleading or otherwise bogus.
The other gripe was about the store opting to be open so mindless consumers could wake up at the hours that bakers work, and go spend their money.
This whiner (initials TS) made it appear as though Walmart might somehow be better or more thoughtful towards their underpaid minions and indifferent flunkies who get paid to pretend they give two shits about shoplifters taking Sam Walton's family fortune, one stolen widget at a time!
Basically, I have say I like Shopko, and even Target. Whereas my favorite fantasy on the rare occasions I find myself desperate enough to buy beer, is to grab a case of beer, and as I wander thru the aisle drink the beer while discarding empties along the way. Placing eggs from the coolers in difficult to reach locations so that by the time they've ripened fully, some serious cleanup is in order.
