  • For all the sushi places in Calgary, this one is one of my favorites. It could be because it's only steps from my house (one whole block); but more likely it's because the sushi is dang fresh and reasonably priced. As far as sushi goes, the menu is pretty run-of-the-mill, however, the freshness of the product is what makes this sushi spot stand out. That said, sushi snobs can find some interesting rolls on this menu; the lllovers roll is a must-try (or is it looovers roll? I can't remember what letter repeats...) but don't expect strange-never-before-seen sushi at Hana. I am at this sushi place enough to probably own the television in the lobby, and I find the best sushi here is on a Tuesday. I discovered this by following a piece of advice from Jamie Oliver who said "Like you and I, fishermen don't work on the weekends, so don't buy your fish on a Sunday or Monday because it's been sitting out since Friday." Albeit, Calgary isn't really the 'who's who' of fresh fish, but I do find a difference in my sushi on a Tuesday or Wednesday... In any case, all wisdom a la Jamie Oliver aside, Hana is a good sushi place and I 'less than three' it's prices, it's staff and most of all, it's sushi. T.
