I love the food. I mean I love their food. Every time I've eaten here, I am always impressed. The patio is great and even if it's hot out, the misting fans make the environment cool and inviting. However, last Thursday night there was a hiccup--an annoyance that should be remedied.
I ordered the Torta which was heavenly, my guest ordered the Bistec al Carbon. It too was magnificent. My friend has a gluten allergy and asked to replace the flour tortillas that come with the dish ($24, mind you) with corn tortillas instead. We were told that they didn't have corn tortillas. When we asked the waiter he said 'we've been down this road so many times but we can't substitute it.' We pointed out that they served corn tortillas in the Enchilada plate. We were told no again. I asked to speak with the manager who gave us a weird and hard to understand explanation as to why they could not and would not give us the corn tortillas. They said they keep the kitchen separated as to keep gluten away from the other foods and that these were special corn tortillas that cannot be substituted. My dining companion is exactly the person you are supposedly creating these rules for. He was offered very hard corn chips as a substitute. A word of advice: make up a better, simpler story or go to Bashas' and buy a $3 package of corn tortillas and have them at the ready.
