A solid choice: great hotel value, pleasant/friendly clientele, good location, maybe a great location if you or your lady friend is into shopping (mall next door). Still a bit fun as its a themed hotel casino - as they were intended to be - but minus one star for dropping the pirate show up front - the kid brother was so sad. You should have seen his gigantic bottom lip quiver - lollipop in hand - when I broke the news.
Don't stand there holding your breath waiting for the pirate show. Looks like they sold a part of the moat to a drug store so that the pirate ships can't move like they once did. I really don't like the look of these drug stores scattered all up and down the strip - Bally's just got one too. Why not just put a vending machine in the hotel lobbies for the hopeful freshly minted 21 year olds so they can buy their condoms there?
Good location. I prefer Paris, Cromwell, Bellagio, and Ceasers or Flamingo though. That is the heart of the strip - the magical 4 corners. If location is your priority - as it should be when choosing real estate - even just for a few days - choose one of the above. BTW Harrahs has a monopoly on all that with the exception of Bellagio.
The clientele at TI is one of the best parts about the property. TI attracts a fun crowd that is young at heart - even if the average age of visitors are probably in their 30s (like me). They did a major re-branding some years back and I remember the day they took down the cool skull-and-crossbones strip marquee to replace it with an LED "TI" sign. They changed the pirate show into something more sexy with ladies in skimpy bikinis and clearly were aiming to attract a more mature crowd instead of children.
The hotel: I like how there is just one tower. The whole property is a work of art. A big thanks Steve Wynn - he contributed so much to the city... and earned the right to slap his name on his new resort. Here at TI - no add ons or afterthoughts to wreck the original intent of design - you know the resorts where there are so many groups of hotel elevators where you can never find your tower or room. Even Bellagio sold out in around 2005 with their new little tower that required the tear down of the beautiful staircase for their ugly add on afterthought tower. Enough ranting.... rooms here at TI are good quality and of average size. With around 2800 rooms and suits expect a bit of a wait to check in. I would plan to check in at an odd hour - either before or after the rush.
On my bucket list is to visit the old skull marquee at the Neon Sign Graveyard Museum and well, the kid brother will just have to make due with watching some of the old pirate show on a cheap quality Youtube video. I have love for the themed hotels of yesteryear. This place was built before a time where it was acceptable to stamp your last name on a tower like Steve Wynn and Donald Trump did. Don't hesitate to book a room here - overall a good value and fun.
