| - I lived in the Coronado neighborhood for years, and I'm ashamed to say I never visited Tuck Shop. I read that they had recently started opening for brunch on weekends and I finally made a visit.
We were quickly greeted and we requested to sit at the bar. Their drink menu (at least during brunch) is limited. Wine, beer, a $9 mimosa or a $10 Bloody Mary were the only options. This is where it lost a star for me. A little more variety would have been nice. I went with the Bloody Mary which was pretty good.
As for the food, this is why I will come back again and again. My boyfriend had the salmon and eggs and just, wow. The smoked salmon melts in your mouth and is so flavorful! It was amazing. I had the pork belly benedict and it was perfect. The pork belly again just melts in your mouth, the hollandaise was probably the best I've ever tasted. The chef clearly takes pride in his craft and made a point to check in with us to see how we liked it.
The customer service was also top notch. This was our first time there, yet all the staff talked with us like we were regulars which made us feel right at home. The ambiance is nice too, with a little reading nook and couches, as well as tables. It had an upscale feel, yet casual enough that it didn't seem stuffy.
I don't remember our total bill, but I do remember feeling that the price was very reasonable for the quality of food and service. I really hope I'll get a chance to return in the evening when hopefully their craft cocktail menu is available.
