| - Yelp had great reviews for this place, and my friend told me he loved this place...so of course, being the self-proclaimed boba aficionado that I am, I had to check No 1 Boba Tea out. Unfortunately, my visit fell very very flat.
The place was empty when my boyfriend and I visited, but we came at a weird time in the afternoon. The inside was clean--looked like a typical mom and pop shop which I'm not mad at. Their menu is hugeeeee, so it was kind of tough deciding what to get. Prices are based on the type of drink you get; the price list was located on a small paper on the right of the menu. The employee was patient with us as we decided what to order.
We settled on the avocado smoothie with honey boba rose honey tea. The employee gave me the option of green or black tea, and I chose green. The avocado smoothie was decent; they definitely added more ice because it was more watered down in flavor than what my parents make at home. But overall, it was not bad. Their honey boba was chewy and sweet; I was actually pretty pleased with their boba.
But what offended me and is the reason for the two stars was my rose honey tea drink. From the looks of it, it looked like any other flavored green tea drink. But there's "honey" in the name. Tell me why there was absolutely NO SWEETNESS in my honey tea!? I know this makes me sound so petty, but I've had so many boba drinks and I just think that if you're marketing yourself as a boba tea shop, that you would at least learn how to flavor your teas. How does one forget to put honey or any other sweetener in a honey tea?? I had already left the store before I tried the drink, so I can't go back and get it fixed. The green tea that they used was way oversteeped; the tea was extremely bitter and makes it difficult to drink. Sweetener would've been able to mask the bitterness to an extent. You could taste a faint rose flavor. But again, no honey. I think I wouldn't have been as upset as I am with this drink if the green tea itself were decent, but the bitterness is just a huge turn off.
I feel bad for writing an awful review, but I'm honestly so disappointed that this place has such great reviews when they made such a rookie mistake.
